Rampage was formed in 2000 to compete in the Bay of Quinte Paintball League (BQPL) as well as attend "local" tournaments, primarily the Golden Triangle Series (GT). The two founding members, Tim Whalen and Rick Cocek decided to form a team since most of the action in their area is based on a 3-man format and only needed one more player to enter an event. However they still wanted to build up the roster to compete in 5-man tournaments as well. An old friend of Tims joined up with them for that 1 year to fill the 3rd spot. At the same time Tim and Rick formed the BQPL as a place for "local" teams to get together in an organized atmosphere to practice against each other to improve the skill in the area and compete at a higher level. Being based on a softball league the BQPL consisted of a regular season that produced seed points for a finals tournament held at the end of September. If you have ever tried to schedule a practice with another team you can understand the benefit of this League. Though the BQPL has grown immensely since its invisionment, its roots go back to the 2000 season.
What a fast and furious first season they had!! In the BQPL regular season Rampage was undefeated and the team was going into the finals poised to take the cup. Their first game in the finals set the tone for the rest of the day by getting a max in less than 30 seconds. Five games later they had the championship in hand. 2000 BQPL Champions!!
During the 2001 Season three more players were added to the roster. Kevin Towns and Charlie Cocek joined up at the start of the season with Aaron Grubin coming aboard mid-season. For 2001 the roster stood at Tim, Rick, Kevin, Charlie, and Aaron. Rampage did have a temporary 6th man that season as well. That year the team considers was a rebuild year and basically spent it practicing and competing in BQPL only. With the new mix of players they used the time to gel together and hone their abilities.
2002 saw Charlie being put on hold because of work shift schedule conflicts but to this day is still an honorary member. Dan Cassibo took his spot on the squad and had rounded out the team to 5 players that competed that year on a regular basis. 2002 active roster consisted of Tim, Rick, Kevin, Aaron and Dan. This was Rampages first year back in GT (they had played 1 event in 2000) and had an excellent showing at the April 13th event in Toronto held at Area51 Paintball Park. With the new squad they placed 5th out of 44 teams and only missed the finals cut by 25 points. The GT is a series of tournaments that span from Toronto to various locations in Quebec and is a hot tournament series filled with some very competitive teams.
For 2003 the Roster has grew to 6 again with the addition of Mike Pierce. Although he was on the team at the end of 2002, it will be this year when he actually joins them in competition. The first tourney on the schedule is Skyball in Toronto at the Skydome. Rampage has been gearing up for this event all winter and is finally confident with their team is up to the task of entering. They are going to play in the rookie division to get their feet wet and hope that this tournament will be a regular event for them. The 2003 active roster is Tim, Rick, Kevin, Aaron, Dan, and Mike. The team is also looking at some events in GT and the Tournament of Champions (TOC) as well if scheduling permits.
